Roadmap
Sandhill Yarns was officially launched in June of 2025 with the goal of learning how to make social media content. Its a funny story, but we’ll save it for another time.
Needless to say, the business quickly grew much larger than we had planned, and next thing we knew we were building a real business. Our personal goal is to build the biggest yarn company and the best team that we can… we clearly have a lot to learn.
As a result, this page serves as a public roadmap for how much yarn we are dyeing, and our estimated timeline for growth.

Our Roadmap
Classic Shonen.
From here on out, the goal is simple. Build the best hand dyed yarn company we possibly can. Have a work environment that employees love, and have hand dyed yarn that is more accessible to the average maker.

So what’s the plan? Well, our current warehouse can support 6 ovens (actually warming cabinets, but you get the idea) so our goal is to scale up to our new cap as soon as reasonable. We believe we can achieve this by August 2026, but only time will tell whether or not this is true.
First, we have to jump up to 1,500 skeins / week. We recently purchased our third oven & some pans, so we will have the equipment needed to do so. The next thing we need is another set of hands. Soon we will be adding two more people to our team, with the goal of removing Isabel from the day-to-day entirely. This is because we have 2 kids, and she needs a more flexible role in the business. As a result, we believe Isabel will jump full-time into content creation & recipe development, so if all goes to plan, you can expect to see her front and center in some long form & short form videos starting this summer!
Once we get Isabel all settled into her new role, we’ll refocus our attention onto growing the manufacturing side, with the goal of producing 3,000 skeins / week by August 2026. Will we make it? We’ll know soon enough!
February 2026
Month 9
It’s been a hot minute since we updated this page, so for the 20 of you that enjoy reading this page, I apologize.
The last 3 months have been all about stability and housekeeping. We got HVAC installed, insulation sprayed, most of the drywall screwed in place, and part of the warehouse has been painted.
We’ve upgraded from a small, 1-bin sink to a much larger 3-compartment sink. That upgrade alone has had a tremendous impact on our workflow.
After getting the sink installed, we upgraded the majority of our Walmart fold-up tables into stainless steel tables, which as you can imagine, has also been wonderful. I believe we have 9 of those in total now. Will likely purchase 6 more in the near future.
Handling more water lead us to discover the need for more grip, so we purchased 10 floor mats so that no one slips and gets hurt.
We designed and built our own drying racks for the yarn, since we didn’t like the ones we got from Walmart. We have about 20 of those racks now on wheels so we can transport them easily.
When it comes to yarn, we sustained 1,000 skeins / week with just the 3 of us, but we’re just about ready to increase again. We just purchased our third warming cabinet and a new set of pans, so we’re right around the corner from increasing our supply! The goal will be to hire 2 more employees to manage the 1,500 skeins / week, allowing us to begin making long form content and take care of some neglected admin work.
November 2025
Month 6
In November we sustained 1,000 skeins / week, but dramatically reduced our social media content creation. Jess got married and took time off, so we focused all of our energy on maintaining 1,000 skeins per week, and content slipped as a result.
We also took a week off to go see some family in Texas, so we had a mini yarn drop for November 30th that only had 170 skeins.
In terms of the warehouse, it started to get really cold. When we moved in, there was no HVAC & no insulation. Our hands were (and still are) super cold haha. But we’ve made progress. Its December 4th right now, and the HVAC units are almost fully installed. After that, we’re getting the place insulated so that we can keep this place warm.
All in all, it was a good month. We learned that we can run 1,000 skeins with just the two of us (Nick & Isabel), but we can’t wait for Jess to return and for the future when we have a larger team.
October 2025
Month 5
In October we increased to a whopping 1,000 skeins / week! Nick left his full time job about half way through the month, we moved into a 2,400 sqft warehouse behind Campus 805 and we hired our first full time employee, Jess!
The journey to 1,000 skeins / week was wild. Its too late at night right now to even explain it all, but I am sure you can imagine. From here on out, our family is focused entirely on Sandhill Yarns with minimal other work distractions.
We think we are still on track to increase to 1,500 skeins / week by the end of the year, but check the roadmap tab below to see what milestones we’re working on.
September 2025
Month 4
In September we made it to our year end goal of 500 skeins / week! That’s 4 months ahead of schedule without any advertising. Actually scratch that, we spent $12 on a TikTok ad to get our account “un-shadow banned”.
Regardless, we were way ahead of schedule. Nick was still working his 9-5 as a software developer, and many of our personal belonging we’re in a storage unit (like our couch, TV & Dinning Table) just to make enough room. And it was still cramped. We needed a commercial space for our business, and we needed it fast.
Nick put in his notice of leave. We signed a lease on a 2,400 sqft warehouse near campus 805 (Huntsville, AL) and Isabel started conducting interviews with potential employees.
The goal is now 1,500 skeins / week by the end of the year. To do that, we need 2 more ovens, 2 employees and a lot of misc items. We’ll see whether or not that is too ambitious.
Thank you so much for your support. It truly means the world to us.
August 2025
Month 3 - Prepare for Oven
The plan for August was to sell 50 skeins per week…but that has changed. Y’all love our yarn so much we’re planning to dye 100 skeins / week until we can afford an oven. This oven to be precise.
Until we get an oven, 100 / week is probably our cap. If certain weeks we can dye more, we will.
Our hope is to reach 2000 email subscribers by the end of the month.
Edit: Its August 10th and we have 2,311 Yarn Drop subscribers…Our TikTok exploded…
Edit 2: Its August 24th and we have 4,268 Yarn Drop subscribers… It was Facebook this time…
Edit 3: Its August 31st. We have 500 skeins dyed for next drop. The website can’t keep up with our traffic so we’re moving to Shopify. Fingers crossed that solves the problem.
July 2025
Month 2
The plan for July was to consistently sell 25 skeins / week and get 500 email subscribers. We far exceeded expectations with over 1000 people joining our mailing list!
For context, we were visiting family in Wyoming, so we pre-dyed 100 skeins and brought them with us to release a new batch each week. Our last batch in Wyoming sold out in 26 minutes!
So when we got back to Huntsville, it was time to dye. We tripled our batch size for the July 27th drop, and to our utter joy, that sold out in just 75 minutes!
July was such a fun month, filled with crazy excitement as orders flooded our inbox. We’re so encouraged by everyone’s support, and we are so happy we can serve you all.
June 2025
Month 1
In June 2025, Isabel launched Sandhill yarns from hobby to business. We were not sure what to expect, and didn’t know if we would could gain enough traction…we were pleasantly surprised!
Instagram was the first platform to take off, ending the month with over 1 million views and 10k followers. YouTube started to gain traction at the end of the month, ending with 250k views and 1500 subscribers.
The website gained ~12k visitors and 250 people joined our email list. Nearly all of our stock was sold out.
